Case Study / Agency Growth + Creative Leadership

BIG CORNERCREATIVE.

I joined a three-person agency as a designer. As Big Corner Creative grew from a handful of clients to more than 100, I grew with it—ultimately becoming Creative Director of the agency.

Building an agency

I helped build
the place I led.

When I arrived at Big Corner Creative there were only two other employees and a small client roster. I came in as a designer, built as the agency built, expanded the kind of creative work we could offer, and eventually became Creative Director of the entire agency as the client base grew to more than 100.

The agency needed to look like what it was becoming.

Big Corner Creative already had an identity when I arrived, but the agency itself was changing. I simplified and modernized the existing visual language while keeping enough of its recognizable character to make the transition feel evolutionary rather than disconnected.

That identity work became part of a larger job: helping an extremely small agency develop the creative range, systems and presentation it needed to support a rapidly expanding client roster.

Make the agency tangible

A brand has to
leave the screen.

The identity became a working system across the things clients and employees actually handled: business cards, presentation folders, apparel and other agency collateral. I designed the work in this archive directly, giving BCC a more cohesive way to present itself while the business was scaling.

Then the work itself got bigger.

As my role expanded, so did the agency's creative capability. I brought motion graphics and video into the mix, allowing Big Corner Creative to sell services it hadn't previously been positioned to offer.

That mattered because growth wasn't just about adding clients. It was about increasing what the agency could make for them—and building the internal creative capability to deliver it.

Motion + video

A new capability
became a service.

Motion and video weren't decorative extras. They expanded the agency's actual service offering. The surviving archive includes branded motion work, an agency slate and client-facing video work such as the Google Local Services Ads piece.

Build movement into the brand

Small branded motion elements helped establish a visual language that could extend into video production.

Growth changed
my job too.

Big Corner Creative is the point in my portfolio where execution becomes leadership. I was still making the work, but I was no longer only responsible for individual deliverables. As the agency grew, so did my responsibility for its creative direction.

I started as a designer in a three-person company. I left this chapter having served as Creative Director of an agency with more than 100 clients. The work shown here is mine, but the larger result is the creative organization I helped build around it.
